Fund raising for Loki went well and the dog run was purchased and is now also protected with the bug protecting mesh, however Loki has yet to to be successfully caught and remains free roaming. The first darting attempt was a miserable failure, a disaster really, which saw poor Loki with the dart remaining in his shoulder for three days, causing him pain and stress.
Given his injury, I obtained antibiotics which were placed in his meals, in order to help prevent any infection.
The last plan to try to dart him, went by the wayside, as the arrangements made were not followed through for whatever reason I have yet to be informed of. That was over two weeks ago and contact with parties to be involved has been futile todate.
With the population explosion of bulldogs (same as horseflies, deer flies only larger and more tenacious) Loki has suffered the onslaught of these carnivorous insects for weeks. Droplets of blood trickling down his nose, the corners of both eyes bitten, and it is a wonder he has not gone totally insane, yet he still maintains his gentle demeanor. He has lost considerable weight due to the stress and of course his winter coat is now shed completely therefore it no longer offers him any form of protection from the hordes of bulldogs attacking him. Add to that the clouds of mosquitoes that continue to feed off him.
As you can clearly see LOKI has changed dramatically. You can see in this video the number of bulldogs that stay with him, following his every move. In the picture shown on the right you can see one biting him in the corner of his eye.

Shedding his heavy winter coat is a natural yearly process, however this year the bulldogs and other biting insects have been worse than prior years. He now bares a scar on his tender nose as a reminder of just what those insects can really do.
LOKI continues to visit here and I continue to go out to him, only I can wear bug protective clothing to do so. With everything in place and ready for him, it is increasingly frustrating to so many concerned for his welfare, that he is not yet here with me where he can be protected and cared for as he so deserves to be. That being said, he is enjoying his freedom, and many of us believe he should be allowed to live out his life in freedom as he has the last three years. He is a gentle soul, devoid of a mean or aggressive bone in his body and he is a friend to many and causes no harm whatsoever. Despite this, he is considered “at large’ which is in violation of Town By-Laws, hence the need for me to get him off the streets before Town Authorities step in and do it their way. Remember dogs are shot in the North.
Loki’s FB page continues to be updated regularly. Comments, messages and emails of concern and love for him keep coming in. I shall be forever grateful to all of his supporters who made donations allowing me to purchase the dog run, bug protection netting for it, and allowing for the veterinary fees that will be incurred once he is finally here and calling my home his home.
I shall employ a new strategy in an attempt to entice/lure him into the dog run on his own. Wish me luck.
